In the battle the defeat the terrorist caliphate known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), bulldozers are finding an unlikely role in expelling the extremists out of the heart of urban areas.
In cities like Mosul and Fallujah, Iraqi soldiers use dozers to break through berms, barricades, and other terrorist defenses. Bulldozers also provide a steel wall of mobile cover for ground troops, as they push back ISIS forces block-by-block.
Dozer operators in the Federal Police are called “The Suiciders,” risking enemy gunfire, rockets, mortars, and car-bombs; they sometimes even use the machine’s blade as a minesweeper for IEDs.
